The Hater's Guide To Spending Valentine's Day

Lifestyle, ShoppingMaría Elena RodríguezComment

Ok so, if you've been reading me for a while now, you know that last year I posted a blog post about why I hate Valentine's Day so much. And before you accuse me of being a whiny single lady who hates V-Day, I am not. I was and currently am in a steady relationship and we both decided a while back not to celebrate this date, because of the reasons listed on that post. ✌🏽

But this year, as part of my New Years Resolution, I am all about self-esteem, being lovable, sending thank you notes (like these or these 😍) and having more friends... Seriously, lol. So I wanted to make things differently and talk to you guys about ways to make Valentine's Day suck less. Because it is everywhere and there's almost nothing we can do about it. And ya'll know I won't be sending you to a restaurant! So here's a very cute (if I do say so myself) Valentine's Day Gift Guide:

If you're spending valentine's day With friends:

valentines day galentines gift guide

Sugar Paper Be You Art Print // Shiraleah Pineapple Aluminum Container // Kate Spade New York Monedero Heart // Besties Book // Jonathan Adler Brass Elephant Ring Bowl // Sugar Paper Gift Tag

First of all, if you're spending Valentine's Day with your friends, you're already very lucky! Secondly, the key here is looking at "Galentine's" just as any other day of the year, but a little bit more special. So if you are going to buy them something, buy them something that you KNOW will make them happy. Like this pineapple container. Have you seen someone not smile when they see a pineapple? Of course not! Or just give them a bottle of Prossecco with a cute gift tag like this one

And what better way to celebrate friendship than with a coffee book about BFF's? Better yet if she's your roomie! If you have a bigger budget, you could get them this heart shaped Kate Spade coin purse or this beautiful Jonathan Adler ring bowl

if you're spending VALENTINE'S DAY WITH YOUR significant other:

boyfriend gift guide

Flight 001 Guy Stuff Pouch // Joy Mangano Christie Leather Weekender Bag (it's on SALE!) // Williams Sonoma Two In The Kitchen Cookbook // Gucci Signature money clip // Billy Jealousy Beard Envy Kit

My boyfriend and I always bond over traveling or having weekend getaways. So what better way to spend this lousy holiday than planning your next getaway? That's why I included this beautiful duffle bag (on sale!) that you can totally still from him/ her, as well as this pouch for toiletries.

I'm also a very lucky girl and my boyfriend knows how to cook very well, but if your S.O. doesn't even know how to boil water, this Williams Sonoma cookbook will surely make you two bond in the kitchen this Valentine's Day.

Lastly, if he/she's a keeper and you have a little extra cash laying around, go ahead and buy him/her a designer wallet like this one. But if you're just starting out as a couple, I would suggest going for a simple and non-expensive beauty kit like this one or this one

if you're spending valentine's day With your family:

what to get your family gift guide

Gift Boutique Mine Stackable Mug // Nordstrom at Home 'Cuddle Up' Faux Fur Heart Accent Pillow // Mikasa Cheers, Party Collection // kate spade new york 'posy court' heart dish // Monopoly Classic Board Game

I know what you're thinking... This is not exactly the scenario you think about when you think about Valentine's Day but hear me out, OK? If you have to spend V-Day with your family, PREACH it! No matter how annoying they are, you will always need them somehow. Plus, I included board games and glasses of wine in this Valentine's Day Gift Guide for obvious reasons. #IGotYou

My advice to you is to enjoy their company by playing Monopoly over wine. It will not exactly be a relaxing experience, but it will sure keep you entertained! Also, make your mom happy by getting her these gorgeous glasses of wine you can start using right away or this beautiful coffee mug she may need in the morning after all that wine.

Also, is there anything more Valentine's Day-ish than heart shaped everything?! I think not. No matter how much you hate this date, you have to admit this pillow looks pretty cozy and this ring tray will definetely bring a smile to your mom's face.

If you're spending valentines day alone:

If by any chance you end up spending Valentines Day alone, good for you! In the words of my sister: "You are a strong independent woman!" If you would like to treat yourself to something, I would suggest just adding to your cart any of the items listed below. Because you damn well deserve it girl!

Now I want to know about you! How are you spending this Valentine's Day? Any plans? Let me know in the comments bellow. Also, don't forget to sign up for my newsletter here! I'm sending out cool stuff to your inbox every other week.

Until next time,

My New Love for Comfortable Clothes

Denim Jacket | Tote Bag | Striped Shirt | Scarf | Crop Top | Loafers | Long Sleeved Shirt | Crossbody Bag | Cami

I am not a high heels girl. I've tried, believe me, but I get in such a bad mood whenever I wear them, that I only use them on really special occasions. I have to admit that this was by the request of my poor boyfriend, who loves when I wear high heels, but hates hearing me whine about how uncomfortable they are. Can you blame him? I've tried compensating with wedges and platforms but now I'm all about these cat loafers and I'm not even a cat person. I am very complicated.

You can probably guess by now why I'm so hooked with all this athleisure and loungewear trend. All I want these days is to put on a slouchy pair of pants, a cami and my Adidas Superstars. I am also taking advantage of this super rare 70 degree weather in Puerto Rico and wearing a lot more cozy sweaters than usual. I am even seriously thinking about purchasing this beautiful scarf from Madewell. It is even on sale! She's calling me I'm telling you. Grab it here if you're interested as well.

Basically I wanted to put together a list of all the things that I've been using lately everyday and what is currently in my closet wish list, which you can find in the picture above and in the links bellow this post.

It's kind of a mix of lounge wear, atheleisure and capsule wardrobes in an attempt to make my life more simple:

My new found love for Lululemon

I swore I would never be that person. I would never spend more than $30 on workout clothes. Yet here I am, with a new found love for the All The Right Places legging, which I'll let you find out the price tag because I am too ashamed to even post it.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, you need to try them out. I even have plans to buy every single color (I already have two). I keep telling myself these are an investment on my capsule wardrobe so I've been saving up my money to have a pretty healthy collection of Lulu's. Because it's gym motivation, right?

Grab the pants here if you want to join the hype. It's real.

Looking for the perfect everyday bag! (Per usual)

You guys know how much I love dreaming about splurging on designer bags. Ever since I got my pre-loved Speedy Damier I can't wait to purchase my second Louis. But, I do have to save my money for a really big upcoming trip so I have to calm myself.

Nevertheless... I've been dreaming about the Stella McCartney's Falabella Tote. She's so beautiful and I bet it fits my everyday stuff. I'm looking for a nice dupe (not the same as fake, btw!). So let me know if you find one in the comments bellow please. :)

In a less expensive note, I have also been crushing on this beautiful cross body by Rebecca Minkoff. I have actually been crushing on this bag for more than a year now, so I think my upcoming trip could be a great excuse to finally get it, don't you think?

Julie Sariñana from Sincerely Jules' Style

I've been coming back to her blog more than ever now that my style has evolved this past year. I love how she always looks so put together, while looking so relaxed and stylish. She's the best at upgrading jeans and t-shirts which is exactly what I'm looking for. Because I am lucky I work at an advertising agency, but I do have to look put together from time to time. 💁🏻

Wish List | Mid Century Modern Home Decor

Decor, PopularMaría Elena RodríguezComment

If you follow me through social media you've maybe noticed that I've been kind of MIA these days. I have a slight tendency to shut down when I'm making big life decisions and right now my life has been quite hectic. I'm starting my masters degree in journalism in a week and have been house hunting with my fiancé for like a month now. So since this will be both him's and I's first homes, we've been researching and buying all the basics, like cutlery, bedding, pots and pans, etc. Basically everything that would be found on a wedding registry, since we've decided to postpone our wedding and once we have a registry it will be for a badass honeymoon, not pots and pans! Can you judge us? #Adulting

With this big decision of finally living in our own place has come a lot of interesting and not so fun situations. I thought I would have the house all to myself and decorate it like my own little sanctuary, but oh boy how was I wrong! I totally forgot the fact that I have to decorate according to two tastes: My boyfriend and I’s. And let’s just say he’s not too fond of the whole mid century modern style...

So since I’ve obviously been Pinning like crazy these days, I thought I would share with you guys my current home decor wish list. I also included some Ikea hacks I'm dying to try out. Hope you enjoy it!

1. West Elm's Acrylic Framework Chandelier

While we still haven't decided on the perfect dining table, I've already convinced my boyfriend this is the perfect statement lighting we need for our future dining area. I find that it is just the perfect amount of casual chic. Fancy, but not too much. You follow me?

2. Eames Plastic Chairs

Still trying to convince my fiancé that this is not a college dorm room chair. Any advice on how to explain to him that any 2016 home needs this mid-century modern chair?  #Obsessed

3. The perfect Bar Cart

This is totally Kathleen's from Carrie Bradshaw Lied fault. Even though I'm a firm believer in that a drink a day keeps the doctor (psychiatrist) away, I've never thought about owning a bar cart. But after seeing all the possibilities all over Pinterest and her blog, I can now say I have #BarCartGoals. Luckily, Pinterest is full with Bar Cart Ikea hacks

4. Palm Leaves Pillows

Because, duh! This goes perfectly with my Scandinavian meets tropical chic decor style. In other words, this would go perfectly with all the little house plants I will have all over the place.

5. Ikea PS Gullholmen

Ever since I first saw this rocking chair I knew I would have it in my home one day. I love how rustic and modern it looks at the same time. But honestly, I've never sat on it and it doesn't look that promising in the comfort department... Sometimes you have to sacrifice some things for the sake of style. Amirite?

6.  Emma Tripod Floor Lamp

Wouldn't this go perfectly with my Eames chairs? Yes it would. I'm a sucker for lightning and I find this would give the perfect soft reading light for the living room.

7. West Elm's Marble Oval Coffee Table

This is the queen obsession of all my home decor dreams, but sadly is sold out almost everywhere and if you're lucky enough to find one, it costs more than $500. For a coffee table.

So this is when I found the wonderful world of Ikea's VITTSJO tables. These can be transform into super expensive looking furniture with just a couple of spray paint bottles and marble contact paper. An Ikea hack that costs less than $100!

As always, I will keep you guys updated on my decorating journey, and of course, once I have a home! But now I want to know, what's in your decor wish list?!

Until next time!
