My Heat-Proof September 2015 Beauty Favorites

One of the things that I love the most about the advertising industry is how laid back it is. I could go a week without makeup and nobody would give a ***. But you know me, and even though I have no problem with sporting a bare face once in a while, I can't resist a good no-makeup/makeup session.

Thanks to the excruciating heat we are going through in Puerto Rico, these past months have been all about minimal/ glowing makeup and finding the perfect products to assist me in this venture. Check them out here:

Tarte'sAmazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation - I don't usually like wearing full coverage foundation for everyday, but I find this one is not as heavy. The reason I've been using this one instead of a BB Cream for everyday it's simple and I guess very relatable: bad skin days. Since it has SPF 15, it's the perfect foundation for those work days were you need to have better skin. Plus, it does last a long time.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal - I've always been a fan of a good liquid illuminator. After watching one too many Youtubers rave about Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors (liquid and powder), I had to go ahead and try it. Verdict? PERFECTION! You don't look shimmery, you just look glowy. I've even been mixing this with my body moisturizers for a slight glow.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer - I gave in the hype and purchased this. The applicator is amazing, and after trying it's Maybilline Fit Me Concealer dupe, I feel like the Nars one is worth the splurge. It is much thicker and I feel like it works perfectly under my dark circles and as a highlighter.

L'Oreal Paris Brow Stylist Plumper - I used to be the girl who wore clear mascara as brow gel because "it works just as well", but boy was I wrong! I had no idea this brow mascara will make my messy eyebrows look put together even after far too many days without plucking them. And as a bonus perk: They won't move! Must try, people.

Chloé Eau de Parfum - Right after being insulted by the tiny bottle of $75 that I received from Sephora, I loved this perfume. I feel like it smells so feminine and fresh, yet a little sweet. It's perfect for the daytime and work. I will definitely be repurchasing this at Amazon were it's so much cheaper!

So there you go! My heat prove September Favorites! What have you been loving this month?

5 Things I've Learned From Buying Cult Beauty Products

Beauty, MoneyMaría Elena2 Comments

Even before starting this blog, I've been a little over my head trying out cult beauty products that are overly hyped. I think it comes with the beauty addict/ turned beauty blogger territory. And after lots of good and not so good experiences, I thought I would share with you guys what I've learned about cult products:

  1. Never forget your skin type - This is a no-brainer, but if you are in a shopaholic state, you may flake... I know I'm guilty! So the next time you buy a product, please take your time to research about who's it made for. Just because everyone is raving about that new face cleanser doesn't mean it will work on your dry skin.
  2. Remember your zip code - Are you reading a product review from someone in the UK? Well you can bet this product probably won't work the same way in a hot and humid location. Trust me, I learned it the hard way after watching one too many British beauty vlogs.
  3. Research drugstore dupes before buying high-end -  Before you go all out buying half your salary worth of high-end products just because bloggers love them, research some drugstore dupes. I give all this credit to Chantelle, one of the interns at the agency I work for, who's just as obsessed with the beauty community as I am. Every time I mention a new product that I've been meaning to try, she already has a dupe that is just as good, but for half the price! So research, research, research.
  4. Mascara... Drugstore vs High-End - This is a tough one for me to admit and I think all of you straight lashes gals out there will understand, especially if you've always been told that drugstore mascaras are just as good as high-end. But after a fair share of trial and error, I can honestly tell you: NOPE! they aren't. Maybe they work if you have naturally curled and long lashes, but on me, they don't. And after trying out Benefit's They're Real, Bobbi Brown's Smokey Eye Mascara and most of Lancome's mascaras, I give you my word that there is no dupe for these at the drugstore, at least for us with stubborn lashes. The only way I've gotten sort of a curl effect is with the waterproof version of the Maybelline's Great Lash Mascara (the super hyped pink and green tube) and Maybelline's Butterfly Mascara.
  5. Just because nobody talks about it, doesn't mean it isn't a great product - Sometimes in the beauty community we get so caught up on what everyone's raving about (guilty again!), that we forget that there are actually more - really great - brands and products out there worth trying. Don't be afraid to experiment with not-so-hyped-about products. You may find your new holy grail beauty regimen!

Do you agree? What are your favorite not so hyped beauty products? I would love to know!

Don't forget to share this with your friends. :)

XO, Elena
